Yeah, either spring or fall would probably be when they come; summertime is concert festival season in Japan, so that time of year is not too likely (though Puffy toured the U.S. in the summer of '06, so I guess anything is possible).

Also: I found an excuse to use that image of the root beer-stained Peter Tork head when editing this blog entry!

I also like that, as I was editing my post, WordPress is saying "New update available! Contact the administrator!"

Good point about fall, and it's probably my favorite time of year to come up there too, so I'll keep that in mind. No doubt you'll be on top of their schedule, so let me know as soon as the news breaks.

Nope, I've never gotten multiple email notifications on your comments, or anyone else's for that matter. But I've done several upgrades of the popup comment editor system recently, so it could be a bug that was introduced. I should probably go check and see if there's yet another new version that needs installing. :)

Well, if it helps, the last two times Shonen Knife has played Detroit it's been in mid-to-late fall. :) If they keep up the same schedule they've done the past several years, we could probably expect the next show to be Oct-Nov 2011 (though I obviously hope another show would come sooner). So start planning now! :P

Hmm, that's kind of interesting about the editing thing. I know I've done multiple editing jobs on my comments before -- have you ever gotten multiple email notifications about my comments before?

That would be awesome if all three of us could go out there sometime. Seems like SK always announces another stop in Detroit a matter of weeks after I book a trip up there. :)

Four email notifications? Jesus. I made a couple of edits to my comment after I posted it, though -- each roughly a minute apart -- so is it possible that the bloody commenting system actually notified you every time I edited the stupid thing? Talk about overkill! Next time I'll use the admin controls for editing instead of that popup thing. Criminy.

You're welcome!

Yeah, the Magic Stick is actually on the Wayne State University campus, so it's not actually a "holy god am I going to survive leaving the venue?" kind of place (that's Harpo's, the place where all of Forster's metal bands play...yikes, that place is in a scary neighborhood). The place is pretty small, and obviously Shonen Knife isn't going to draw thousands upon thousands of fans, so it's a good match-up. Plus I like being able to stand a foot away from the band. :)

The next time they come back you should try timing a trip up here to see them. We could all go and hang out and have a good time.

That's weird that you were thinking about the Crave, too. I guess great minds think alike. :)

As an aside, WordPress apparently deigned your reply important enough to send me four email notifications about it, each roughly a minute apart.

That is a fantastic and detailed account of the event. I practically feel like I was there. Sounds like SK is still totally awesome, both as a band and as really cool and friendly people.

Your greater familiarity with the band's catalog and all things SK (even DJ Sashimi) really paid off this time; I can tell just from reading this that it gave you a huge appreciation for absolutely every iota of stuff you heard, saw and experienced.

I was again impressed by the description of the Magic Stick and the costs associated with everything; it sounds like a really accessible venue. I'd much rather see a band play in a place like this instead of one of those huge stadiums; been there done that. Obviously it depends on the artist though. And weirdly, I think I said the same thing after your last SK review. ^__^

That's ke-raaaazy about White Castle, man. Just last night I was sitting here thinking about how a Crave Sack (although I envisioned a TM in my head, not a registered trademark) would be freaking tasty, and fondly recalling those wintery days back home when we'd trip out to that place (the one by Forster's old house in particular) and wait a dog's age for them to actually finish making the food.

And oh yeah, what kind of dick goes around pointing out how people spelled stuff wrong to their face, focusing on their one tiny mistake despite all the other great stuff they're doing? Talk about malignant narcissism.

Thanks for the mega-review!
