Sayonara, Xbox 360

Well, the packing box for my Xbox 360 was delivered yesterday (which I discovered merely by chance, as the UPS driver didn’t so much as knock at my door), and I dropped it off at the nearest UPS Store this morning. Let’s hope it gets repaired in a somewhat timely fashion.

There was a slightly amusing moment at the UPS Store this morning, which really illustrates how many problems Microsoft has had with the 360: the woman knew I was shipping an Xbox as soon as I walked in the door. After exchanging pleasantries, she said “An Xbox?” before I could say anything else — apparently the generic white box Microsoft sends out is a dead giveaway. According to her, she’s had to deal with this many times.

Somehow, I’m not surprised.

  1. Hehe, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say that same thing about the UPS Store employees knowing it’s a 360 by looking at the box. The box is even pretty unremarkable in its design, so they’re apparently recognizing it by its general size and color alone. And yeah, it’s obvious they ship a lot of these things back and forth.

It was to the point where I walked in to ship mine off fully expecting to hear likewise, but the guys at my local store didn’t have any remarks. Ah well. The old fogies probably don’t play video games.
