Total Misery

So on Monday night, I came down with that disgusting flu thing that’s going around. And while I’m doing a little bit better today, I still feel like I was hit by a truck.

This year’s flu is really, really nasty. It seems to be of the “intestinal” variety, if you know what I mean. A couple of the guys I work with had the same thing last week and were laid up in bed for a few days. You probably think I got it from them, but that’s the thing — I don’t see any of these guys in person. Since I telecommute, we usually only talk over the phone or Internet. My boss joked that we seem to be transmitting the flu to each other electronically.

I was up throughout the night on Monday, being violently ill in a way I haven’t been ill in nearly a decade. On Tuesday I was too nauseous, dizzy and short of breath to even get out of bed. Today the dizziness and fever are reduced enough that I can sit up at my computer, but I’m so exhausted that I’m basically doing only that — just sitting here. Somehow, though, I need to try to finish a work project today — you know, that one I took on for $100/hr. that, of course, is not paying me $100/hr. because I was instead given a fixed amount of cash up front, and am having to spend more hours working on it than that cash is worth.

The shortness of budget and my illness have conspired, therefore, to ensure that I do a half-assed job of the remainder of the project today. The budget doesn’t allow for me to spend that many more hours, anyhow. Hey, it’s not my fault that the dumb ass client is way behind on everything, has limited money but needs everything done in a week. (Isn’t that how it always goes?) All I can say to them is, plan a little better next time — because if you don’t, then you deserve to go out of business, in my opinion.

So I’m basically still on a liquid diet today, since I can barely stomach the thought of eating. I wish I had some Jell-O or something. That’s always good when you’re acutely ill. I do have some hot jasmine tea though, that should help.

Guess I’d better be off…try to get some work done. Blah.

  1. Yech! What an awful way to start the week. At least you managed to stay well for your birthday. (Have you noticed you have a habit of getting sick around your birthday??)

Anway, we hope you’re feeling better by the minute, and able to get out and pick up that birthday present you’re planning for yourself.

    Love and hugs…
