Let’s Go To The Knife Planet

Posted by Pooch on Friday, November 30th, 2007 in Media, Music

So here I am again, emerging from another months-long hiatus to gush about a rock band from Japan. I did it last year with Puffy, and now it’s time for…Shonen Knife. The female rock trio has been rocking out for over 25 years now — and has been making regular tours of America for about [...]

Xbox 360 December 2007 Update

Posted by Chief Oddball on Friday, November 30th, 2007 in Console, Games

Next week, on or around December 4th, Microsoft will be pushing out the December 2007 dashboard update to Xbox 360 owners. The Xbox Team today has posted the official changelog for the update, so you can see exactly what we’ll be getting.
One of the biggest changes (in my book) is that the 360 now [...]

Dodge Challenger SRT8 Pricing Announced

Posted by Chief Oddball on Thursday, November 29th, 2007 in Auto News, Cars

According to the Detroit Free Press, Dodge has announced the pricing for their limited-edition Challenger SRT8 with the 6.1 liter Hemi engine: $37,995, including destination charges. That’s actually very competitive for the top-of-the-line Mopar pony car, and is only a couple grand more than I paid for my GTO after the sport appearance package.
Unfortunately, [...]

Search for $A, Find $B: Hey, It’s November Already!

Posted by Chief Oddball on Thursday, November 29th, 2007 in Site

Where did the time go? I was supposed to do the third quarter edition of this regular Oddball department back in September or October, but apparently time got away from me. Gee, what a surprise. Anyway, I’ve already cruised through the server stats, and have borne witness to the truly wacky, incredibly [...]

Mass Effect: Sci-Fi Brilliance with Annoying Aftertaste

Posted by Chief Oddball on Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 in Console, Games

I’m completely enthralled by Mass Effect, the new sci-fi adventure game for the Xbox 360. It’s simply one of the most engaging single-player experiences to hit the Xbox this year, along with BioShock. But while the game is all kinds of excellent, it tends to leave a somewhat nasty aftertaste when it hits [...]

The Stupid Cable Box

Posted by Chief Oddball on Saturday, November 24th, 2007 in Media, Rants, Television

When Apple and I spent October with my family in Michigan, I was introduced to my dad’s new high-def A/V setup, the centerpiece of which is a Sony Bravia II 46″ LCD television. They get digital cable service from Bright House Networks, and my dad gave me a tour of the HD DVR he’d [...]

Pulling Back the Veil

Happy belated Thanksgiving!
Alas, it seems I’ve left you all hanging. Again. Seems like just yesterday I was on here saying that “tomorrow or shortly thereafter” I’d be posting about some great, mystical revelation I’d had, but of course, a thundering silence was the sole result. I doubt I need tell you that [...]

Welcome Back to Oddball Headquarters

Posted by Chief Oddball on Sunday, November 18th, 2007 in Quick Takes, Site

We now return to our regularly scheduled blogging — sorry for the delay. To begin, I’ve posted details of our excellent trip to Michigan, and there will be more entries in the coming days. I’ve also posted up my official Christmas list for 2007, this time powered entirely by Amazon. Which reminds [...]

Road Trip of a Lifetime

<turns on the lights>
Oh, hey. You all startled me. I didn’t think there was still anybody here, but I see you’re all still sitting there, waiting for me to post some fresh tidbit of content, some tasty morsel of one sort or another. Hope it wasn’t too dark in here for the [...]
