Another Black Muscle Car
Posted by Chief Oddball around noon on June 26th, 2007There’s another metallic black muscle car in the family. Yesterday, my dad replaced his 2004 GMC Envoy with this:
It’s a 2007 Dodge Charger R/T with the Road/Track Performance Package, which adds more aggressive suspension components, specific exhaust, rear deck wing, front chin spoiler, SRT-8 bucket seats and 20″ chrome wheels (as well as the extra-large, red R/T badges). Power is rated at 350 hp, with 390 lb-ft of torque. It’s a big car, and seriously sinister looking.
This October, it’ll be the reunion of the black V8 pavement pounders in Detroit!
Now your dad can race with the Livonia PD Charger I saw on 7 Mile today.
Are they R/Ts, I wonder? (V8s, in other words?) Some of the east coast departments here in FL bought Chargers recently too, but they are base V6s. D’oh!
I honestly didn’t notice, because I was too busy being irate at the other drivers around me for going 5-10 under the speed limit.
But this isn’t the first time I’ve seen that Charger (I often see it when I’m going to get donuts, for example), so the next time I see it I’ll check out if it’s an R/T or not.
This is weeks after the fact, but I’ve seen two more Livonia PD Chargers in the last two days, and neither were R/Ts. D’oh!

Well, at least they’ll be saving on gas! Too bad they won’t be outrunning much of anything. But I hear the cops really like the Charger, as far as the ergonomics and utility go.
