Seek And Ye Shall Find…Maybe

I was fiddling around in the server control panel just now and thought I’d take a look at my latest search queries — you know, the keyphrases people are looking for when they stumble across this site. They were mostly all relevant for a change, but I did find these two gems:

  • sanity replenishment
  • anime doug’s dugout michigan

I think we could all use some sanity replenishment, but I doubt you’re going to find any of that here. As for Doug’s, I’m not sure where I mentioned that most famous of all classic anime shops — oh wait, there it is — but after doing my own Google search for that same query, I returned only one other relevant hit: A message board thread somewhere, in which some guy was wistfully saying “Remember GameSpot? And Doug’s Dugout in Garden City? I wonder what happened to him.”

Seems no one knows.

I remember GameSpot, though. Wasn’t that the little hole-in-the-wall we went to one time that had the imported game consoles and RPG stuff?

  1. I’m not sure if we ever went to GameSpot - it wasn’t too far away from Doug’s, I know. You may be thinking of A to Z Comics, which is where we first went when we were trying to find Doug’s for the first time (y’know, after you heard the radio ad and we took the Grand Prix out, even though your arm was messed up and you weren’t supposed to be driving?).

Then again, maybe we did hit up GameSpot at some point. My memory’s not that good. =P

As for Doug himself: when I worked at Media Ploy a couple of years ago, the resident “anime expert” there (and one or two other co-workers, as well) knew Doug, and said he shopped there from time to time (I never saw him, though). According to said anime expert, Doug (at least then) still attended local anime showings, though I never really found out where. Beyond that, I dunno. Though I can tell you that his old store space is now split between a Mexican grocer and a travel agency.

And sanity replenishment, that’s gold. Pure gold.

  2. It could be that I am thinking of A to Z Comics, but I somehow think we did visit GameSpot once…and never again, because it didn’t interest us at all. For some reason I think we first got the idea to go there because we heard they had imported game consoles. I dunno, maybe my brain is manufacturing it all.

That would have been awesome if you’d run into Doug sometime while you were still working at Media Ploy. Then the whole mystery might have been solved, and we could go around to these message boards posting the answers for all those other poor, lost souls. :D

Yeah, “sanity replenishment.” Not that I don’t understand why that phrase would lead someone here, because I remember using those words in a post about being overworked. Rather, the thought of somebody searching for that is pretty damn funny.
