“Shutter” Region 1 DVD!

'Shutter' U.S. DVD caseEchoing a post made by Chief Oddball over two years ago, today I found out that the Thai horror movie Shutter has - at long last - found a Region 1 release, courtesy of Tartan Films. Reaper had informed me a while back that he thought Tartan was bringing this awesome film over, but today I actually saw it with my own eyes at my local video store (though I’m kicking myself for not seeing it at the very Borders I was at yesterday, even though they apparently have it in stock; maybe next weekend I’ll go back).

Chief Oddball showed this to me a couple of years ago, and I remember it being nothing short of totally awesome. Now, with an official Region 1 release, you have no excuse for not owning this film.

Yeah, just what I need - more movies to buy.

  1. Fucking awesome!!! I should get this edition too!

Forgot to mention, the creator of Shutter just released a new horror film in Thailand — the day after we left. D’OH. Hopefully, I’ll hear from my sisters-in-law if it was good…

Another edit: I see an ad for Sundance Channel’s “Asia Extreme” block on Tartan Films’ website. Wonder if Shutter will be aired on that channel? That’d be sweet!

  2. Yeah, I thought it was definitely cool. I actually decided to rent it and watch it, at least until I can buy a copy. I was shocked to see it - I guess it was just released at the end of March.

I noticed the Sundance Channel thing, too - unfortunately, we don’t get that channel. :(

By the way, did you end up liking that Shonen Knife stuff?

  3. Yeah, I was gonna drop you a line, that stuff was great! Although I have to admit, my favorite of the tracks you posted up was Time Machine ni Onegai. I could listen to that all day!

Did you decide to order any browny circus albums yet? If not, then don’t…that’s all I’m saying… ;)

  4. I love “Time Machine ni Onegai.” When I first saw Kamikaze Girls that song stuck in my head for quite a while afterward. Plus, Yoko Kanno’s soundtrack to the film is awesome (she also did the soundtrack to Cowboy Bebop, along with a zillion other things) - so I had to get the CD, naturally. :)

But no, I haven’t ordered anything new - I figure I should cool my jets for at least a little while, especially considering I’ve purchased seven CDs from Japan over the last month and a half (or so), and still have to pay my income tax for the year. So I guess I won’t be ordering them now. :)
