Duke Nukem Lives?

The gaming community (well, a small niche of it, anyway) is awash with the news that 3D Realms has just released the first screenshot of the eternally-delayed Duke Nukem Forever in over six years — without really meaning to.
Apparently, the image you see here (shown actual size) was posted on a 3DR job listing on Gamasutra, a website about the game creation business. As such, it wasn’t meant to be siezed upon by Duke fans, but now that it has been, 3DR frontman George Broussard has confirmed that yes, it is an in-game screenshot from the long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever.
Gamespot has the (admittedly light on substance) story. Could this be a sign that DNF really does exist, and really will be hitting store shelves one day? Is it really an in-game screenshot, or is George just playing with us? Is this one of 3DR’s “wacky sense of humor” gags, wherein the actual screenshot is not this picture, but the blurred image on the monitor behind a plastic action figure of Duke? And does anyone care anymore?

Bah… Duke is dead. They’ll probably opt to update the engine three more times before actually releasing the game.
Wouldn’t doubt it. Whenever this topic comes up on message boards full of n00b twelve year olds who weren’t around when this all started, all I do is tell them some of what I’ve done since it was initially announced. When the resulting list runs the gamut from “graduated high school” to “gotten married” and “bought a house,” it helps to underscore the point.
Although I have to admit, the 3DR guys must have some pretty damn fine jobs. I mean, if you like Duke. Otherwise it’s probably like torture.
