Journey to the Center of the Mind
Why name an entry after an Amboy Dukes song? Because I wanted to post about some of the random stuff I was thinking, and that song popped into my head. It tends to just do that. It must be The Nuge. You don’t say “no” to The Nuge.
- The Detroit Pistons are playing the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the semifinals right now. Down 3 games to 1, they (the Pistons) have succeeded in doing at least one thing: Making every last game of the series an absolutely excruciating experience. At least, unless they lose…then that’s about the end of the anxiety right there!
- I recently picked up a PC game called Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, a first-person survival horror title that’s part of the mythos of H.P. Lovecraft. So far, I’m really enjoying it. It looks somewhat foul (being an Xbox port) and is slightly quirky. But to make up for that, the story is excellent and the horror reminds me of a cross between The Legacy and Vampire: Bloodlines. It’s got me wanting to head to the library and check out some of Lovecraft’s works, actually.
- Speaking of PC games, I also recently picked up Quake 4, and would advise you not to do likewise. The only emotion it evoked in me was a hefty hankerin’ to go play Doom 3 instead, the far superior game from which Q4 borrows its engine. Raven, this is a snoozer. A very pretty snoozer, but a snoozer nonetheless. No cookie for you.
- I thoroughly enjoyed last week’s movie entertainment, the special edition DVD of Aliens. So much, in fact, that I want to reinstall the Aliens vs. Predator 2 game and play the marine sequence again. What’s with this PC game resurgence lately, you ask? My computer has been trouble-free during gaming sessions lately, that’s what. Since this could be only a temporary side effect of proper planetary alignment, I’m enjoying it while it lasts.
- My grandfather advised me that there are some pretty good airfares available to and from Detroit right now. I’m still considering a trip northward this summer, perhaps in August — and upon checking, I found plenty of $67 flights (each way) and plenty of availability all through August. Only problem is, there’s only one flight each day from Detroit back to Florida, and it leaves at a nasty 7:00 am. Eeeew.
