Oddall Update

It Comes with the Territory

Seems like whenever I move my site to a new web host, whether by choice or by some extenuating circumstance, I start getting in the mood to redesign it. Granted, it doesn’t exactly need redesigning again, but I’m no longer infatuated with this look. I’m thinking it’s time for something cleaner, lighter, smoother, more geared toward text and less toward total content overload.

Also — and I seem to hop back and forth between these two styles each time — I want to lose the fixed-width and go with a fluid layout that will fill the browser screen. The inherent problem there, of course, is not being able to predict what the site will look like on everybody’s screen, and thus having to give up some control over how I arrange images and such in my posts. This bugged me so much the last time I tried a fluid layout that I used a combination of CSS and Javascript to restrain it to a maximum width. Not this time, though: If people want to use a browser that’s so incredibly wide that each column of text is a nearly-unreadable 2000 pixels long, they obviously don’t care what the layout looks like — so why should I.

Anyway, I have a lunch meeting today with a local businessman about another web project, and there’s a couple of other ongoing projects that I finally received materials for this week, so I doubt I’ll have that much time to be messing with my site here in the near future. Which is, naturally, when I always start jonesing to change it. Well, at least I’m predictable.
