A Quick Update

We’re back from our trip to San Francisco! Actually, we’ve been back since Sunday, but I’ve been too tired to post — or do much of anything, so I took an extra day off from work today. Apple and I had some fun out in California, did some cool stuff and took a ton of photos that I’ll soon be posting in the site photo gallery. Unfortunately Apple has been suffering terribly with the flu for several days (she’s getting better now) which made it hard for her to enjoy the trip. Yesterday evening it looked like I was also starting to display symptoms, but after sleeping for eight hours between 3:00 and 11:00 this afternoon/evening, I feel much improved. Perhaps I’ll yet escape it.

Anyway, this day is just about over — and I’m going to try and get some more sleep, because I’ll be hopelessly out of sync with reality if I don’t — and then jump back into the grind tomorrow. I should certainly be well-rested, heh heh! Before I conked out completely today, I managed to get the Gulfstream Foundation website launched on their own live server; now I just have to change their PayPal account’s primary email address to something they own, rather than an account on my server. After that they’ll be ready for prime time, and I just need to write up some documentation on how to run the system.

On the work front, a former executive from my previous employer emailed me yesterday asking if I was interested in helping his company put a web presence together. He works for the county government doing real estate development and they’re about to develop some 20,000 acres out east, and need a substantial website built in 30-60 days. Honestly I’m not sure I can take anymore, but I plan to email him back and ask about the project specifics. If I decide to take this one up, I think I’m going to go into it offering design services only, not a full front-to-back solution — that’ll keep things sane. But this guy was one of the best and brightest minds at my old workplace, is a great communicator, very professional, and is now hand-over-fist rich — so I have no doubts it would not be another “Unclean Waterfowl” experience, and the pay would certainly be excellent.

Anyway, time for me to bug out. I’ll be posting stories and photos from our trip in the coming days, but here’s a teaser: Have you ever heard a Vietnamese Valley Girl speak? Well, if you have, I guarantee you don’t have ears anymore because you would have torn them off just to stop the torture. I’ll have that and many more stories of San Francisco’s Muni bus transportation system when Oddball Update returns.
