Replacement Spoiler Installed
Posted by Chief Oddball in the evening on April 13th, 2006The replacement spoiler I ordered for my GTO (after losing the original one in a careless accident) arrived this morning, and during the evening I got it installed. What a relief — it wasn’t any trouble at all, and the end result is that the car looks good as new. Can’t even tell anything…untoward…ever happened, which is a big load off my mind. Unfortunately the car’s pretty dirty but the spoiler’s all shined up with Zaino Z-6 and looking fantastic.
Only one snag: The dealer that did the install didn’t follow the directions and drilled a smaller hole for the stop lamp wire than what was called for, so the supplied rubber grommet didn’t fit. Fortunately I’d had the presence of mind to save the original grommet that they used — they’d procured a smaller one that did fit — so I fished the wire through it, RTV silicone’d it to the deck lid and wrapped up the install.
I guess if I had to find a silver lining in all this, it would be that my original spoiler did have some fine circular scratches on it from where somebody at the dealer got a little too enthusiastic with a crummy rag. All gone now! (They probably would’ve buffed out, but that’s one less thing to worry about.)

Great work, son! I’m very happy your new toy is again in a state of visual perfection. Now, be careful with that @%#$ garage door! ;>}
