New Feature: Inline Comments
In much the same way you can read the “More…” portion of longer entries right on the same page by clicking a link, I have just added a feature that does something similar for comments. The difference is that the new inline comments feature uses AJAX to load only the comments you request at the time you request them, instead of loading all of them upfront and then just hiding them. It also uses some pretty cool transitional effects, and there’s a “loading” icon that will throb until the data is loaded. Thanks to Mark Jaquith for developing the original code and Peter Kashou for turning it into a WordPress plugin.
The only problem is, the inline comments look worlds better than the plain old static comments on the single post pages, so I’m gonna have to do something about that here when I get some more time.
To demonstrate the function, I’ve added a comment to this post. Wooo. Now I’m talking to myself…even online.
Edit @ 3:10 pm: It seems this feature only works if you access my site via the address oddballupdate.com. If you use www.oddballupdate.com, a Javascript permission denied error will be thrown. Since I hate the obsolete “www” prefix anyway, I have now started transparently redirecting all traffic that arrives here via that address to oddballupdate.com. This means that some of you regular readers may need to login again to set another cookie for this domain.

Here’s the aforementioned demo comment.
Whoa…that was majorly cool, man.
