Life Is One Big Emergency
Posted by Chief Oddball in the evening on March 28th, 2006I’m going to be a little scarce over the next week. Maybe two. Since the two entities I worked for (at my single “day job”) have combined, we need to combine their websites, both of which I built. This is a bigger task even than last October’s redesign just one of those sites, which took almost a month. While this fact seems at least partially lost on my immediate superior(s), I will admit that I have contributed to my current feelings of anxiety by letting myself get too bogged down with that frustrating Flash thing, spending way too much time on it. (It is a piece of the new website, but a relatively small one.) I also have not worked on the site merger at my usual full throttle over the past week because I needed to maximize my spare time on the Gulfstream project. And then there’s the unwritten rule that it somehow never seems like as big of a job as it really is until I get about a third of the way through it, then it hits me big time.
I’ll be getting up an hour earlier every day for the next week or two, working through the evening and probably through Saturday and Sunday as well until this thing is done. The extra hours are my way of trying to make up for not giving it my all during the last week. I’ll also be having a phone meeting with the management every morning at 9:30 to brainstorm what content we should put on the site; we’re not simply merging the content of the two sites together, as a lot of it is apparently outdated and/or our marketing focus has since changed. The problem is, I have no idea what information is no longer valid, nor do I know what the marketing focus really is — the downside of not working in a central office where you’re surrounded with everything that goes on at the company. Admittedly, management isn’t sure on a lot of this stuff either, or at least they don’t really know how to put it into words — which is why we’ll all be brainstorming a few more pieces of it over the phone each day.
So I’m going to post this now and get back to work, but if you don’t see or hear from me for a while, you’ll at least know what is going on. Consolation or not.
