A Busy Day, Indeed

I was kept busy all day with work items, not that that’s anything different from the usual operating procedure as of late. I was on PR duty today, distributing press releases, updating the website and soforth to coincide with a new product version announcement by our company today. This was a major milestone in the product’s life because it is the first to run natively with Microsoft’s latest environments and frameworks, something a lot of developers were clamoring for. The press distro took most of my time today. Afterwards I wanted to clean up the task list by polishing off a related item, but of course, as I was in the middle of doing that, the “Comcastic” (more like Craptastic) Internet connection went out. It took a few hours to come back, so I just now wrapped up my work for the day.

Unfortunately, before the Craptas…uh, I mean, Comcastic Internet service winked out, the cable TV service also hiccuped, resulting in the second half of my dinner entertainment for the day — a Star Trek: TNG episode — being truncated by the TiVo, which rudely asked me if I was finished watching my show right as Data’s tricorder was picking up something fascinatingly technobabbly. Ah well. It’s not like I hadn’t seen that episode, but damn it, it was a good one, and the big reveal was imminent. Grrrrr. Comcastic, my foot.

Speaking of dinner, I’ve really got to congratulate Apple — she whipped up an absolutely lip-smacking chicken fricassee recipe today, the likes of which I haven’t enjoyed since Bill Knapps went out of business. I savored it, I tell you. Fortunately there’s more for Thursday evening. It remains to be seen, however, just how well this stuff will reheat. (Never had occasion to do that with the Knapps fricassee, which was always completely gone by the time I got done with it — ha!)

Switching gears here, it was recently revealed by a local TV news spot that several communities in our area seem to be suffering from defective roofs — the gist of which is that a poor gutter attachment design is causing the wood panels directly behind the gutters to rot away prematurely. Not exactly a good thing. Worse, I believe our house may be affected — in fact, everyone in the neighborhood may be affected, and we’re talking over a thousand homes here. Interestingly, near the end of build-out for this community, the gutter design was changed — and those homes do not seem to be experiencing the problem. Sounds like an issue with the builder to me!

Curiously, the local homeowner’s association has not only decided not to take any proactive steps in this matter, they’ve stated that they will have nothing to do with it. An odd decision in my estimation, given that this is an issue that affects almost the entire community — including themselves, if they own homes here! Regardless, another homeowner in our particular community took the initiative and contacted the vice president of the builder, and said V.P. was happy to come meet with us homeowners. Apparently the builder is going to address the community, explain the problem, what is being done to correct it, and detail how they are going to schedule and interface with all of the homeowners here. Sounds like they’re doing the right thing. I’m definitely going to this meeting. Although it will undoubtedly contain important information that has no excuse to not make its way to everyone in this community via some public announcement or mailing, the board’s heretofore lack of action on the subject introduces doubt that I would otherwise learn what’s going on unless I go there myself and soak it all in. So I shall.

Hard to believe it’s already after 10:00. Where has this day gone? Well, I know where I’m going pretty soon: to bed.
