Get the Goat NOW?

With my Trans Am sold, there’s nothing standing in the way of me getting my new GTO. Nothing, of course, except the GTO actually arriving.

As the finances from the car sale have been raised, and since GM’s Red Tag Sale (which will save me $2,200 off the cost of the car) is ending on Tuesday, Apple suggested to me today that I keep my eye out for other GTOs matching the description of the one I ordered, except at different dealers…just in case. I mean, if the exact car I wanted showed up somewhere else close by, as long as the host dealer didn’t have a crappy rep, why not snatch it up?

Tonight, while running a cursory search of GMBuyPower.com, I located another matching GTO at James Rivard Pontiac in Tampa, FL — a full hour closer to home, and another dealer whose sales and service departments come with nothing but glowing recommendations over on LS2GTO.com. Obviously, I wasted no time in submitting an email inquiry, but will follow up with a phone call tomorrow. The dealer’s home website was also showing this GTO on their own inventory list, suggesting it actually is on their lot right now (sometimes new cars show up on GMBuyPower a week or two ahead of their actual arrival on the dealer’s lot).

If this turns out to be true, I figure I will also call the sales manager over at McNamara and tell him I found another identical car nearby. If my original order really is due any day, I may as well wait for it and give the Orlando guys my business, since they’ve put up with me this long. But since I could go to Rivard and get the sale price tomorrow, I’d want to get a guarantee from McNamara that I will get the sale price too, no matter when my car shows up. I mean, otherwise, I might as well take my business elsewhere, get the car NOW and get the sale price NOW. If they can’t do that for me, then it’ll be time to get the deposit back.

Edit: I called up James Rivard Pontiac and found out that the GTO in question isn’t actually there yet, either! So this whole thing is a moot point. Today I hope to hook up with the manager of McNamara to get an estimated delivery date on my car. But other than that, I’ll just be playing the waiting game!
