Sunday Night Talking Points

Couple remarks on various things happening today, this week and during the rest of the month.

The guy who came to look at my Trans Am called up today to ask if the car was still available. He mentioned that he should be getting back to me tomorrow with his decision on whether to buy it or not, so he must have narrowed down his choices as far as he can. I’m anxious, but excited. If he buys, it would be a much faster sale than I wanted — and, if things hold up, for just the right amount of money. Only problem is, the cloudy weather this weekend precluded me from getting any pics of the two WS6s together. If I find out tomorrow that the car will be sold, I will probably try to get some photos taken right away.

This evening I digitized not an audio cassette, but a video cassette. The first 8mm tape, in fact, that I shot with my Sony CCD-TR6 on Christmas Day in 1991. Whoa…talk about a blast from the past. The whole time Apple and I were watching it, I kept saying stuff like “That carpet! …Those blinds! …That poster! …Those old windows!” As we speak, Nero Vision Express is transcoding the two-hour video for burning onto a DVD — there are about 10 minutes left in the process before it finishes, and I’ll have authored my first DVD video.

Apple and I have been talking about getting a new video camera so we can capture the modern-day moments of our lives that we’ll wish we had video of later. Trips to Thailand, special occasions, even just random stuff — seeing this old tape from ‘91 makes me realize how fun and important that can be, maybe not so much when you’re shooting it, but fifteen years down the road when you’re reliving it. Of course, I don’t skimp with anything like this, so I’m looking at the Panasonic PV-GS400. It’s pretty much the best prosumer camcorder out there right now, combining the visual quality of MiniDV with the advanced manual features (focus ring, manual zoom, etc.) that my old TR6 had. All the money I’m making from side projects should help to pay for it, and one of the reputable shops that carries it offers a 90-day same as cash plan.

Plus, I thought it would be fun for somebody to shoot video of me picking up my new car. ;)

As usual, there are way too many things going on my head, and not enough time to get them all done.

Amazon sucks. Yeah, I am not sure I want to buy anything from them ever again. About a year ago we got an Amazon credit card, the reason being that every time we bought something with it, it would earn points toward a $25 Amazon gift certificate. We’ve been getting certificates every three months or so. But our last one never showed up. Apple and I both called customer service literally five times and were literally given a different excuse every time. We never did get the certificate. But I’m not sure I want it; we ordered two Christmas gifts from Amazon and both of them are taking a century to show up. It make take three weeks to get these stupid things. Amazon’s lameass email says the delivery date is anywhere from December 15th to December 29th, and this is with standard ground shipping, not even their cut-rate free shipping. WTF is with these boffos? By the time you order something you’ve already paid your credit card bill by the time it gets there. Apple and I think we’re going to eventually quit using the Amazon card and get another one instead, since we’re basically not getting jack for using this one anymore.

A guy on the GTO message board wrecked his car a couple weeks ago and just got a new 2006 GTO to replace it today. It’s exactly like the car I ordered. MOTHER F’ER! I want my car already, enough waiting! I was also teased this week by GMBuyPower.com which indicated that a dealer near Tampa has the exact car I want, but user reports on the message board indicate that this dealer sucks (I believe one guy said, and I quote, “The manager is an old school ASS”). Anyway, I’m not changing my plans, but the wait is getting excruciating. During the last 30 days before my WS6 came in, I was pulling major hair — but at least it means the wait is almost over. The car should be here within the next month.
