Oddball Update

Although the tracker has not officially been updated, I received word from a fellow GTO buyer (who is also in southwest Florida, ironically) that the ship carrying our 2006 GTOs docked at the California shipyard on Saturday, December 10th. The picture above (from UltimateGTO.com) depicts what the railyard in Benicia, CA looks like when it fills up with GTOs ready for transport to Pontiac dealers around the country! It was taken in December of 2003, when the first shipload of goats arrived in the U.S.

Next time we get a tracker update, I expect my status to move up to 3750, so I’ve gone ahead and updated my car’s info on sidebar of the site here. If I’m lucky, I may even see 3800 — which means the post-unloading prep work has been done, including installation of the spoiler and assignment of a VIN.

Here is another cool pic from UltimateGTO.com, showing the first GTO to hit U.S. soil (a Phantom Black one) rolling off the boat two years ago. Wish I could be a fly on the wall out there in CA, watching my car hit the ground running. This pic will give you a good indication as to the size of the boat that carries these cars. It can hold at least 525 vehicles.

On a related note, I had a couple of nibbles at the ad for my WS6 today. One was a young guy who is local to Fort Myers and sounds pretty serious. He owned a ‘97 WS6 previously and is looking for a new vehicle; I guess he wants a crotch rocket (sport bike) but his parents don’t want him to get one, probably for fear that he’ll kill himself on it, so he’s checking out some sports cars for sale around town. He said that he wanted to stop by tomorrow afternoon to take a look at the car, and that he would call this past evening to get my address, but he didn’t. I’ll see if he calls me tomorrow.
