Fuel Extortion Bubble

Posted by Chief Oddball on Tuesday, November 29th, 2005 in Quick Takes

Can anybody explain why the average price for regular gasoline in Naples, FL is around $2.50 while you can find the same stuff for at least 20-30 cents cheaper as close by as the next neighboring town?

The Word Is Out…

…As of December 2nd, in the Fort Myers Auto Trader (and on AutoTrader.com). The WS6 is up for sale!

I keep thinking of all the fun times I’m going to have with my new GTO. Regardless, seeing this ad makes me sad.

New TV for the Bedroom

Posted by Chief Oddball on Friday, November 25th, 2005 in Media, Television

Since I’m using my new Xbox as the DVD player for my rear-projection TV, I moved the old dedicated DVD player into the bedroom. The TV we have in there is an old GE 19″ shadow mask that I originally got in Orlando when I first moved there in 1998. It’s a pretty [...]

Cherry’s baby

Congrats to my sister-in-law Cherry and her husband Boon — Cherry just gave birth to a baby boy yesterday morning around 11 a.m. He’s adorable, and looks just like his mom. To the proud new parents, Apple and I wish you [...]

Xbox360: First Impressions

Posted by Chief Oddball on Thursday, November 24th, 2005 in Console, Games

I continue to experience the three-quadrant red LED error once in a while when I first turn the console on, but so far a reboot has always cured it and allowed me to play for hours thereafter. I discovered that particular error code indicates a nondescript hardware failure, so I’m not sure what exactly the deal is. I figure I’ll buy the 2-year Microsoft warranty and I’ll be covered in case it gets worse.

Up: Xbox360, Down: GM

Got my Xbox360 today, right on time. Thank you, EB Games and FedEx. Everything seems to be working well; the only issue was that EB didn’t send me one of the games I ordered. Instead, they sent me a duplicate copy of another title included in my order. So I had [...]

Goat on the Boat

Posted by Chief Oddball on Friday, November 18th, 2005 in Cars, GTO, Quick Takes

The goat’s on the boat. Yes, my 2006 GTO has hit status code 3550, meaning it is currently on the high seas, en route from Australia to west coast USA. The journey takes about a month, so it ought to be in port by mid-December. From there, it takes about a month [...]

Those Bastages

Posted by Chief Oddball on Friday, November 18th, 2005 in Cars, GarageBlog, Rants

Apple’s Mazda6 needs a bit of service, we decided. After getting back from our trip to Michigan in October, the brakes started to feel strange. The car still stops as well as it always did, but the pedal seems to have gotten stiffer — that’s right, stiffer, not spongier — and it squeaks [...]

Moonlighting

Posted by Chief Oddball on Wednesday, November 16th, 2005 in Life, Randomness

For a brief while, I worked both sides of the aisle. Last night (and into this morning) I took on an emergency last-minute job from my previous employer. Of course, with my old employer, every job was emergency and last-minute, so I guess qualifying this project as such wasn’t necessary.
Turns out the rather [...]

SiN Is Back

Posted by Chief Oddball on Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 in Games, PC

Don’t get your knickers in a wad, Reverend. I mean SiN, the PC game from 1997. Ritual Entertainment, developers of the original FPS from last century, are gearing up to release the first in a series of SiN Episodes — a seemingly innovative new method of content delivery over Valve’s Steam service. [...]
