Write the sequel first.

Bah; Ick

Feeling crappy today. Slept awful last night, today feeling woozy and weird. Weather was crap too because of Lovely Rita, the latest in a long string of attention-whore weather systems to pass our way. Maybe it’s the barometic pressure causing me to feel wacky.

Did some decent work today. My bosses and I are getting very close to signoff on the new website design. Just some minor color tweaking now, so as to appease the tastes of one of the two partners. Not really a big deal. Tomorrow I have a “luncheon meeting” with the crew to discuss how we’re going to use Microsoft SharePoint to manage our library of documents and sales material going forward, which should be a lot more efficient than keeping them on a shared folder with no source safety or revision control.

Back to digitizing tapes today. Still shooting for the old stuff like from circa 1993. With one exception: Today I pulled out a tape of me playing a modem game of Duke Nukem 3D against the infamous Big John (”He’s goin’ in that damn closet again!”) which should be entertaining not just to myself, but possibly my friends back home as well.

I picked up Final Fantasy X and X-2 today for a grand total of $26 bucks. The former was a used copy, but it was pretty scratch-free…although it did have some weird residue on it like somebody had attempted to polish the scratches off the surface with automotive wax. Anyway, I’ve already spent about 45 minutes playing it, and so far I really like it. It’s more visually appealing and engrossing than the action-RPGs I’ve played on the Xbox from BioWare (KOTOR, Jade Empire), and certainly easier on the eyes than FFVII, especially on an HDTV. So far, the relatively small expense seems to be worth it. It was kinda cool seeing certain details left virtually unchanged since the heady heyday of FFVII, like the “battle success” music, item names and other little things. Of course the story, characters and setting are totally different, as they are with every FF game (to my understanding).

I’m feeling majorly devoid of energy tonight, so I’ll probably just play more FFX and go to bed early.

  1. “Shake it baby! Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-shake it baby!”

    *CH-CHUNK* *BOOM* *female scream*

    Heh heh heh.

Glad to hear you’re liking FFX so far. Yeah, generally all the items and what not are the same from game to game (and things like chocobos and the major summon monster spells), as is the “battle success” theme. Though I’ll warn you right now that FFX-2 is quite different in some regards — like no sphere grid to level up your character, only three characters to choose from in the entire game, and a couple of other things. It’s still fun, though (and it actually works as a sequel).

In a somewhat unrelated note, I now have to buy another copy of FFVIII. I was playing it the other day, when suddenly the PS/2 started to choke over itself while trying to play a cutscene. I hadn’t checked the discs when I got the game back from my sister, because I assumed that she didn’t do much damage. Mistake! Though the 1st, 3rd and 4th discs are all fine, the 2nd disc (or, the one I’m on right now) looks like someone gave it the once over with a brillo pad. :(

This is why I usually hate lending my stuff out…it always comes back in worse condition that when I lent it.

  2. Feel better, killer. *hugs*

  3. Thank you, m’lady. :) I seem to be doing better today.

Pooch: That sucks about the FFVIII damage. Always a potential hazard of lending things out. Hopefully you’ll be able to find another copy. BTW, you should shop around the game stores down here. They’ve got a large used game selection…more used games than new, actually.

Played FFX for another couple hours last night before conking out. This game is totally fun! In the beginning it was a little too much “just sitting and watching,” or not really doing anything of importance, but it’s gotten better now, and the story is getting interesting. And the game is providing plenty of tips so I don’t feel like a maroon, which is good.

Hehe, I’ve gotta digitize that Duke tape next.

  4. Of course, I go to EB Games in Wasteland to get a copy of FFVIII (since I’d seen they had several copies before), but conveniently “they sold their last copy last week”. GRRR! Then they said “there’s a mom and pop video store in Allen Park that resurfaces discs…but, uh, we don’t know what it’s called or where it is.” They then claimed that another employee at another store knew where it was, so they called…except the girl wasn’t working. “Come back in a few days and we’ll have the name of the place for ya!” Pffft. I still think I may just buy another copy, as my sister also conveniently lost the instruction booklet for FFVIII, and I’m a stickler for that kind of shizz.

I’ve still got a few places I could check out — there are two EB Games in Dearborn that I haven’t checked yet (though one is in Deathlane), and I suppose I could always try GameSlop (since there at least three in this area that I know of). Failing that, though, I’ll be sure to catch the next flight down there so I can pick up FFVIII, and then fly right back up here. :)

As for FFX, I really liked the storyline in that one. In FFVII, for example, you could follow the plot so far, and the rest was completely vague and unexplained. I recall FFVIII having a similarly wacked out storyline. FFIX seems pretty straightforward from what I’ve seen so far, but FFX’s storyline I was able to follow pretty well, and they even tied up everything neatly at the end (which would seem like there wouldn’t be room for a sequel, but they managed to do it anyway).
