The Wait Begins: GTO Ordered

After coming up short at all of the local dealers, and even finding myself unable to make immediate headway through Red Holman Pontiac (my old favorite dealer of choice from back home in Motown), I finally struck gold today. On a whim, I decided to call McNamara Pontiac in Orlando, a bustling city I spent nearly two years residing in during my college tenure. McNamara has the largest allocation of GTOs in the entire country, and has been in business for forty-some years. I figured it was worth a shot.

I spoke directly to the sales manager, Dennis Rushing, and mentioned my plight: none of the dealers around here had allocation to order a 2006 GTO yet, and I definitely wanted an ‘06. Thanks to McNamara’s allocation, eighteen 2006 GTOs had already been ordered for inventory — and five of them had already been reserved by customers. I had Dennis check the order banks, and one of the incoming cars was just what I wanted — Phantom Black Metallic, six-speed manual, 18″ wheels — except for one problem. It had the Anthracite (black) interior, instead of the Redhot (crimson) leather I had wanted. Fortunately, it was still early enough in the game that the dealer was able to get the order changed to match my specifications.

I also queried them on the Sport Appearance Package. McNamara has done several installations of the somewhat complex SAP kit (it takes three to four days to install it properly) so that was a relief. Because I’m having the dealer install it prior to delivery, it’ll be included under the envelope of the factory warranty.

Now I send them a $1,000 deposit…and wait. Since it’s built in Australia, the Goat probably won’t be here until January or February. Either way, it’ll make either a nice belated Christmas present, or an early birthday present to myself.

In this man’s garage, the Pontiac excitement lives on.
