Good Day Tuesday
First of all, happy birthday to my friend Pooch! If he hasn’t already received it yet, there’s a nice gift in the mail to him from both myself and Reaper.
Yesterday our DVD of Shutter (a Thai horror movie) finally arrived, as well as a DVD of classic anime Doraemon which my wife had ordered. Doraemon was supposedly in PAL video format so I wasn’t sure we’d be able to watch it, but after switching my DVD player to region 6, the darn thing fired right up. That anime is funny. It was kinda designed for kids, but it manages to be quite humorous even if you’re an adult. Those wacky Chinese guys who subtitled it, however, inserted massive amounts of cursing which I’m sure wasn’t there originally. As for Shutter, the video and sound quality are awesome. It’s possible that the subtitling in this edition isn’t as good as the subs in the theater, but nothing else seems to be lost. There are even some cool special features showing how they filmed certain scenes and what-not.
Tonight Apple and I are celebrating our anniversary (she’s been working every evening since the actual date) by going downtown to one of our favorite sushi restaurants, Zen. It’s down on Fifth Avenue where, according to the local morning show, “You have to be a billionaire to eat lunch.” It’s really not all that bad at most of the restaurants down there, in all seriousness. Zen’s got some fabulous sushi in some exotic flavors. After which we’re going to watch Shutter and probably get scared to death again. Fun!
At the office, it’s another slow day off to a slow start. Not much has been happening around here lately, which is really strange. I think it’s mostly due to the fact that we haven’t signed on any new directories in a while. That’s what takes the most time and effort. We also just acquired what was once our foremost competitor, and will shortly be taking over all of their accounts. That hasn’t happened yet, but when it does I’m sure I’ll be busy…as will we all. But for today, about the most interesting thing that’s happened is that somebody brought in banana bread.
It occurred to me this morning that since the county has begun ripping up the road my wife and I both use to get to and from work, washing our cars is going to basically be a waste of time for, oh, about the next four years. This morning when I went to leave, I was shocked at how dirty Apple’s car was. It’s mud from that damn road. They dig up all kinds of dirt and clay from the median, and then, for reasons I can’t fathom, they deliberately soak it in water. Perhaps so that it doesn’t create huge dust clouds? Whatever. It’s messy, and it blows. But believe it or not, there’s no other way to get home that isn’t, at first glance, more excruciating, so I’ll put up with it for now.
I guess that’s it for this entry. Man, the only problem with not being busy at work is getting bored. Never thought I’d say this, but where’s that ad page?
