“Shutter” In English!

When my wife and I went to Thailand this past September, we saw a Thai horror movie called Shutter which was, simply put, phenomenal. It had us all scared shitless. When we recently rented the original Japanese version of Ju-On: The Grudge, we were actually pretty underwhelmed in comparison. Shutter wound up being the highest-grossing Thai film of 2004, and it’s not hard to see why. It must have had a huge budget, as the production values are top-notch, the acting excellent, and the scares ceaseless.
So imagine my rapture this afternoon when Apple informed me that finally an English-subtitled version of Shutter, in NTSC video format, is now available on DVD from YesAsia.com. Up until now, the only DVD available did not have subtitles. The disc is coded for Region 3, but my code-free DVD player that I bought in 1999—which has only recently made itself really worthwhile—will make short work of that.
Additionally, Apple reports that the nicely-done official website for the film is now available in an English version, so you can see more of what it’s about. If you’re into horror films, especially the more-cerebral fare usually cooked up by Asian filmmakers, you will love Shutter.
