With Half an Hour Left, I Post Something
Posted by Chief Oddball in the early morning on February 11th, 2005Half an hour left? What is this, a dumb contest of some kind? Well, I did say I was going to try to post on the site more often, as I recall. Not that I have anything all that critical to say. Today started as the worst day yet this week, which is really saying something considering how awful the last three have been, but by lunch time it was getting better. The manager of the customer service department, a really cool engineer-type who reminds me of my dad (and who has always been really cool to me), treated his entire staff to lunch at the local Persian bistro and decided to invite me along too, because I help the customer service staff so much. Sweet! It was exactly the kind of distraction I needed today after a tough morning, and we had a great time.
Something came over me as the afternoon progressed, a kind of strange sense of enlightenment that made me realize that my life is chock full of awesome things, and I really should find better things to do with my energy than bitch endlessly about some people who have probably been stupid all their lives and will continue to be so until they are left to rot in their graves. While those people will have no positive influence on much of anybody they ever work with, I can be different. I can put myself above that dreck and try to be remembered by my colleagues as somebody who was resourceful, competent, witty and supportive. I may not be “management material” any more than the clowns who actually hold those positions at my company, but I can be good at what I do, and I can avoid being an ass about it. That’s the kind of attitude I want to be remembered for.
Anyway, I shall have more updates later, hopefully tomorrow. I’ll be busy working this weekend, but it’ll be free of distraction, and I can have the China Dolls thumping on the speakers rather than some twangy old headphones. Speaking of them, I’m finding that ALL of their old albums are out of print. Sob! Maybe eBay can help me out.
