Netflix Plugin Permanently Destroyed

I’ve finally had it with the Netflix plugin I was using to display my current rentals on the sidebar. Some of you probably noticed that this site has been loading abysmally slowly for the past few days. At first I thought the server I was hosted on was experiencing some kind of MySQL choke, but then when I started disabling pieces of my site one at a time, I discovered that the Netflix plugin was the culprit.

This is tied, obviously, to the fact that the plugin has been randomly returning null data for the past few days. I do not know why it does this. Netflix offers an RSS feed you can subscribe to which displays similar data, so I figured that would be a good option to use instead. But when I tried switching to that, I found it wasn’t working correctly either. The page load times went right back up. Perhaps my server is having trouble hitting Netflix’s server—routing difficulties or some such thing. Whatever the reason, it’s certainly not worth sacrificing performance on the rest of the site, so I threw it out.

If one day I can come up with a solution that works and works consistently, I’ll put it back. But for now, I’m through.
