Christmas Eve, and What Am I Doing?

I’m sitting around thoroughly enjoying the hell out of being off work, is what. Let’s hear it for holidays. Additionally, let’s hear it for the suitably clashy, goofy, Christmas-y style sheet I put up special for the occasion. (Don’t worry, it’ll be gone by the end of the weekend.)

It’s been a great day. This morning I chatted with the family, emailed some friends, bought a couple of last-minute gifts, played beach volleyball (on the Xbox, you cad!), watched another episode of Babylon 5 which was totally awesome, fixed up a couple things at my parents’ house, and otherwise just relaxed here at the house.

Tonight’s Bab5 was excellent, as was yesterday’s episode. When I read the synopsis of tonight’s installment I figured it was going to be crap, but somehow they made it awesome anyway. The episode synopsis was simply, “Delenn is in danger when a soul hunter, an alien who captures the souls of the dying, arrives at the station.” I envisioned some Hirogen-type guys (a la Voyager) who speak in eloquent British accents, appear quite civilized so no one has the authority to kick them out, but secretly steal souls. Something dumb like that. If this were VOY or DS9, that’s probably what I would have gotten. Instead, we get a babbling, psychotic old man who belongs to a race of people who capture souls when a person dies. But because this old wackjob once failed to capture the soul of the Minbari leader, he went nuts—and now, to ensure he never fails to catch another soul, he just goes around killing people and taking their souls directly afterward. The story was more captivating than you might initially think. Many kudos to the writers.

I hear it snowed big time in Michigan! Well, 6 or 7 inches anyway, which is pretty good. It’s not snowing here—God no—but as if the weather decided it wanted to give us something similar, the entire day was cloudy, foggy and nasty, with a slight mist of rain in the air here and there. Overall not too unpleasant—sorta the right atmosphere, in an odd way—but not anything I want to continue for too long. Unfortunately, for the next two days it’s supposed to rain a lot, with some kind of heavy shower system moving in from the Gulf. Bah, whatever. As long as it’s out of here by the start of the week.

I briefly entertained the thought of redesigning this site this morning when I got up. Ended up changing my mind. The design isn’t terribly original, but it’s not that bad. At least, it works for me, for the present. One of these days I’m going to come up with something really good, but that day isn’t here yet.

All right, I’m going to sign off now—time to go play some more volleyball. Woohoo!
