Welcome to Oddball 3.0

Let the excitement continue!

…Or whatever. Ah, greetings, and welcome to Oddball. This evening, you undoubtedly have noticed that some things have changed around here. This may not mean much to any of you, but I’ve finally decided to throw out the old weblog system I was using, which was known as pMachine. Right around the time I adopted pMachine for the content management of this site, the development team abandoned it and moved on to create a new, $199 Supa Dupa Blog they call ExpressionEngine. pMachine, meanwhile, is dead. So I decided to make the leap onto the WordPress train, onto which everyone else seems to be jumping, too.

To all of my regular visitors who have memberships at my site, the login box is at the top of the right-hand column. Your username and password, profile, comments and posts have all been migrated over. The only thing is that your login is case-sensitive now, so if you can’t seem to get in, try capitalizing your username. If you forgot your password, you can click the “lost password” link to have it reset and emailed to you automatically.

To my friends who have posting rights—surprise! Just as you begin to get acclamated to the interface, I’ve thrown it out and given you a new one. Ain’t I nice? Seriously though, if you have any questions or issues, let me know. It takes a little getting used to, but it works pretty well.

For those who access my site via a mobile device (I think that makes one of you!), I’ve installed a plugin that should automatically detect your synch service and give you the simplified, mobile-friendly page. If not, just point your browser at this URI directly.

Finally, I’m aware that some things might not look quite right, as I’m still in the process of weeding out the final bugs. The “users online” reporting system at the bottom of the page, for example, looks like hell if you click on it, but I’m getting to that. If you spot anything that appears to be obviously broken or not working right, feel free to drop me an email.

Now that most of the work on the site re-launch is done, I can get back to actually posting articles. I’ve got a lot of stuff saved up to post on here, so there should be plenty of activity in the next few days. Assuming I can tear myself away from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which I haven’t touched in three days thanks to this site. smile
