KITT Parts Motherlode - For FREE!
Posted by Chief Oddball in the wee hours of April 17th, 2004
It’s been months since I visited the Knight Registries message board, and this morning when I decided to check up on those guys again, I happened across a sweet deal just as it was posted. A guy who lives down here in south Florida is clearing out his garage for a new toy, and wants to get rid of all of his KITT parts. He’s too busy to pack, sell and ship them, so he’s just giving them away in lieu of throwing them out. I managed to get a lock on the following items:
- 4 14” proper K/R wheels with mounted tires
- 4 14” proper K/R wheels without tires, but painted red by some fool on eBay
- 2 tan PMD seats in somewhat distressed condition, but with good frames—will need reupholstery
- 2 factory consoles (one from an ‘82 and one from an ‘84)
- 2 complete sets of tan solid back rear seats and lower cushions
- 1 factory rear wing (with removable 3rd brake light)
- At least one set of smoked ‘82 taillights
- 2 sets of 1987-89 Formula taillights
- Box of parts including trim pieces, ‘82 automatic shifter assembly, fasteners, etc.)
- Miscellaneous tan trim pieces, including two sets of door sill plates (one from an ‘82 and one from an ‘84)
- 1 complete factory cowl induction system complete with proper air cleaner assembly
The only catch is, I have to go get all of it.
Obviously I don’t need a couple of these things (like a set of red painted turbo-cast rims…WTF), but it was either “all or nothing” from this guy, so here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to rent a cargo van from Enterprise, drive over to Vero Beach (where the guy is located), pick up the parts and truck ‘em home. Then I’m going to stuff them into every nook and cranny of my garage and attic (I’m obviously going to clean out the garage ahead of time). Whatever stuff I don’t need I’m going to give away on the message board (but I’m not shipping anything large; people will have to come get it or send a freight company).
It’s a bit of an adventure, and a bit of a spur-of-the-moment move, but it occurred to me this morning that if I don’t put forth some effort like this, I’m never gonna get my dream car built! And I mean, these parts are FREE. What have I got to lose? (Other than about $150-$200 bucks on the van rental, but I’ve got more than that in cash coming to me for the website I just built for a dude at work, so there’s nothing stopping me cost-wise.) Besides, it’ll be fun! Sorta like the huge trip I took to buy my ‘89 Formula in the first place—I thought it was a little crazy at the time, flying up and driving immediately to Ohio in the middle of the night, but my dad and I pulled it off, and we had a great time.
And so, the Knight Project forges on!
