INS -> BCIS -> USCIS -> Finished
The organization that handles immigration and naturalization in the United States has been through two name changes since my wife first applied for her permanent resident green card (I-551), but at long last, with an envelope that arrived in the mail today, the wait is over. And our dealings with the USCIS (aka BCIS, aka INS) are now finished until the year 2014.
Yes, the long-awaited green card finally arrived today, a mere two weeks since we re-applied for a replacement card in Miami. I don’t know what that immigration officer wrote on that form that got the service center’s butts in gear like that, but it worked. There’s only one snafu—there was a misprint in the address to which the envelope was sent, but since the address in my wife’s file is not connected to the green card in any way, getting that corrected at least won’t involve applying for a third card. (Thank God.)
So for the next decade, we get to enjoy as much international travel as we like. The first order of business will be a nice trip back to Thailand. Some day we’d also like to see Japan, Hong Kong, Australia again, and Canada.
At least that last one is easy.
