Tire Store Time!
I have to thank the local Pontiac dealer, Rick Johnson Auto & Tire, and the Goodyear service center for performing, in that order, three botched front end alignments on my Trans Am. By the time I got to my fourth, at the same Goodyear center, they finally put somebody on the rack who knew how to use it, and the guy complained that it took nearly three hours to bring my alignment back into spec. They had to practically disassemble the front suspension to do it. Way to go, guys!
But the reason I’m thanking them is because this has now forced my hand—that is, I must now get rid of the shit-tastic Goodyear F1 GS tires that I should have scrapped long, long ago, and put an actual decent piece of rubber on each of my rims. I’m going to replace at least the two tires up front since they are the worst off, but I’m tempted to re-shoe all four. Especially after I discovered the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS.
Based on everything I’ve read, these look like the tires for me. The tread wear is phenomenal and the road noise is very low, two of my chief complaints with the Goodyears. Plus, they’re half the price of the Goodyears—$159 each at Discount Tire! Now I just have to check local shops to see what they charge. I’d hate to order online, but Discount Tire will ship them to me for free, plus I can get 90 days no interest financing (6 months if I order four tires). Drooooool.
Maybe, for once, I can get back to enjoying my car again?
