The Injectors Of Doom Revisited

Good news: Tonight I taught myself how to use a fuel pressure gauge, including diagnostic tests involving clamping off the supply and return lines. Bad news: It takes the Formula about ten seconds to bleed off all 42 pounds of fuel pressure from the moment you turn the key on (but don’t start the engine), and clamping off the lines doesn’t stop it. Probable diagnosis: Leaking injectors.

JUST GREAT. I get to tear down the plenum, intake and fuel rails again and find which one of the brand new injectors I just spent $250 is pissing fuel into the cylinder like there’s no tomorrow!

As for my “torque converter will not lock” problem, I noticed that the transmission was a bit low on fluid. I think that when I accidentally freed the tranny drain plug that one time (while trying to change the engine oil, LOL), I didn’t get the plug tightened back up all the way. It seems to be leaking very, very gradually out of there. I’m going to tighten it up and add some fluid. If tranny fluid pressure is insufficient, the TCC will not lock, so maybe I’ll get lucky and that’ll be my problem.

This is turning into a whooooooole bunch of fun. I see more mechanic bills coming.
