Knight Rider No More
Well, the honeymoon is over. The Sci-Fi Channel has permanently removed Knight Rider from their programming lineup.
Formerly gracing the airwaves each weekday at 5:00 p.m., the talking Trans Am and his perm-wearing soap opera actor will no longer be seen. Adding insult to injury, the last episode, which aired on Tuesday, December 30th, was one of the worst episodes ever. No, not “Voo Doo Knight”—it was “Soul Survivor.” Plot? Some woman, played by one of the ugliest actresses of the eighties, knocks Michael unconscious by combining hypnotic Don Peake electronic music with the sound of her voice. Her little 16-year-old henchkid actually disassembles KITT and steals not the car’s million-dollar CPU, but the TRANS AM BODY it was mounted in, then he drives it away using a one-button Atari 800 joystick. Although I can’t fault the kid for his taste in cars.
(BTW, my friends will remember this episode as the one where KITT’s scanner light split in two and ran in opposing directions, like the lights below the main viewscreen on Star Trek. Only time this ever happened.)
Anyway, now that Knight Rider is no longer being aired anywhere, as usual, let’s see if Universal keeps their word about releasing those DVD boxed sets.
