On Second Thought…
I just found a fantastic article on custom PROM programming. ThirdGen.org comes through for me again.
Looks like this could be easier than I thought. For a cost of around $200, I could have entry-level versions of everything I need to custom-burn. Since all I need to change is the damn fuel injector constant, I don’t need an expensive pre-burnt custom chip and I don’t need to slog through hours of tuning for a wide range of engine upgrades.
Better yet, any of the pocket programmers you can buy will read your PROM and save it to a BIN file so you can work from it. I was worried that my PROM has customizations I don’t know about, and if I use a stock BIN I’d lose them. But no problem—I just pull the BIN from my existing chip and tweak one constant integer. Burn it, throw it in, and bang. I’m set.
Time to get started! Woohoo!
