Larger Problem Than I Thought

My latest issue with my ‘89 Formula, the too-high-pressure injectors, just got worse. I got a bit nervous about this whole mess last night and started poking around under the hood. The car still isn’t leaking any fluids, but I noticed that the engine oil has been diluted by gasoline. DAMN IT. Now I’ve got to change the oil immediately. I’m stopping after work to pick up some oil and a filter and will probably do the change tonight. I’ve never changed the oil on this car, so I hope I don’t have any problems. And of course it will be pitch black by the time I get home tonight. Hopefully my portable fluorescent lamp has an AC adapter somewhere because there are no batteries.

This whole injector thing makes me incredibly angry. After discussing the issue a bit more with some folks (including one longtime GM certified technician), I’ve decided to dump the friggin’ 24-pounders and get OEM replacements. I have a set of Bosch 21-lb injectors picked out, just waiting to hear if they have the correct flow rate for my engine with stock intake and PROM (they’re supposed to, but I wanted confirmation from independent sources). Unfortunately, after all this abuse, my spark plugs are probably fuel-fouled already. They were brand-new not long ago, so hopefully they can be cleaned.

I’m not going to be sleeping real well until I get this whole mess fixed. And once I do, I’ll only be back to where I thought I was when I bought the car. Real nice.
