One Step Closer

So I finally got a hold of the guy who’s selling that ‘89 Formula 350 I’m interested in. Actually, it was his wife I talked to on the phone, but that was better than the answering machine I’d been getting the last two days. Come to find out it’s actually her car, that she loves it, obviously wishes she didn’t have to sell it, and has always had a great love for Firebirds—having grown up in the seventies, she always wanted a ‘76 black-and-gold Trans Am!

I learned several new things from that short phone call. For one thing, I’m comforted by the fact that she wishes she didn’t have to sell the Formula. It suggests that they’re not getting rid of it because they can’t stand fixing it anymore. I also learned that this family is not the original owner of the car, but that they have taken good care of it during the years that it has been theirs. The fact that the car has had multiple owners, however, makes it all the more imperative that I get a hold of VIN number to run a report on the history. Finally, I learned that the car’s getting its new paintjob this coming weekend.

Anyway, the woman referred me to her husband as the source of all technical answers for the vehicle, so I found out the best time to call back this evening. Told her that I lived in Florida but that I was very interested in the car and, pending satisfactory answers to my additional questions, I would like to arrange a convenient date on which I could fly up and check it out. “Wow, you’re really serious,” she said. Damn right I am!

So anyway, I’ll post again later tonight (or maybe tomorrow) with whatever additional information I glean from tonight’s conversation. In the meantime, though, I have a couple of goodies for you. First of all, I finally located another (better) picture of what this car looks like. This is a photo of somebody else’s car, but the configuration looks almost the same (except for the apparently gray interior, and the fact that this car’s headlights don’t seem able to retract):

Also, while poking around looking for the above picture, I found an extremely entertaining website run by somebody who apparently goes by the name of Black Echo. It’s a bit eclectic, and if you’re a fan of Harley-Davidson motorcycles then do not go there, but there’s some very amusing “Tales From The Driver” which involve F-bodies, Mustangs, imports, stupid drivers, insane rednecks, and all manner of other road wackiness. Plenty of reading here if you’re bored. Just hope you can take the red-on-black boldfaced text. (You might wanna run it through a browser that lets you set your own style sheet or something.)

More news later!
